Lane's Dance Academy

Terms & Conditions and Policies

Please read and agree before completing your booking

Welcome to Lane's Dance Academy. The terms below set out how we work together to keep our studios safe, supportive and fun for every dancer. By ticking the agreement box on our booking system, you confirm that you have read, understood and agreed to everything in this document on behalf of yourself and your child.

This document covers our behaviour guidelines, behaviour policy, data privacy notice, health and safety policy, and our fees, payment and cancellation terms.

1. Behaviour Guidelines

To make sure every dancer feels safe, supported and able to learn, we ask all students to follow these simple guidelines. They apply inside the studio and at all Lane's events, performances and social activities.

  • Keep hands and feet to yourself — No play fighting, pushing or physical contact with others during class or break times.
  • Be kind and inclusive — Everyone is welcome at Lane's. Any fallouts or arguments from outside must stay outside. We don't exclude, whisper, throw side looks or ask others to take sides — we lift each other up.
  • Welcome new faces — If you see someone new, or someone on their own, invite them over. It can be hard to make friends when everyone already has their groups, and one kind gesture can make someone's day.
  • Celebrate other people's wins — Whether it's a new skill, moving up a class, a show role or a competition result, celebrate each other's successes. They'll do the same for you when it's your moment to shine.
  • Use respectful words and actions — Speak kindly to classmates and show good manners. A friendly attitude makes class more fun for everyone.
  • No comments on how others look or what they can do — We celebrate all body types, backgrounds and experience levels at Lane's. Everyone is on their own journey, and no one should ever be made to feel uncomfortable about how they look or what they can or can't do yet. We rise by lifting others.
  • Be kind online — On WhatsApp, social media or any group chat connected to people you've met at dance, always be respectful. If you wouldn't say it in front of a teacher or parent, it probably isn't kind to write. Our values matter online too.
  • Respect all teachers equally — Every teacher at Lane's deserves the same level of respect, focus and behaviour. No dancer should behave better or try harder for a principal teacher than for another team member. A strong, united team is what allows us to offer more classes, performances, workshops and opportunities for everyone.
  • Listen carefully and follow instructions — This keeps classes running smoothly, keeps everyone safe, and helps every dancer get the most progress and enjoyment from their time with us.
  • No phones in class — Phones must stay in bags during class. They may only be used at home time with permission. This is for the safeguarding and privacy of all children.
  • Support a positive atmosphere — We expect Lane's dancers to bring energy, effort and encouragement so everyone can enjoy the journey together.

Repeated disregard of these guidelines may result in loss of privileges, as set out in our Behaviour Policy below. Let's work together to keep Lane's Dance Academy a happy and positive place for all.

2. Behaviour Policy

Updated June 2025

At Lane's Dance Academy we pride ourselves on creating a safe, positive and encouraging environment where every dancer can thrive. Kindness, teamwork and respect matter to us just as much as dance technique.

If we see or receive reports that behaviour is falling below our standards and disrupting the learning or enjoyment of others, we follow the steps below.

Stage 1 — First Touch Point

If a dancer's behaviour doesn't align with our values but doesn't affect the wider class (for example, being unkind to another dancer or showing poor attitude), they may receive a first touch point. This will be emailed to parents, with the offer of a conversation if extra support is needed. If the behaviour affects the whole class, a first touch point will be sent to all parents in that class so everyone has the chance to reflect and reset as a team. In most cases this is more than enough to get behaviour back on track.

Stage 2 — Escalated Individual Warning

If the behaviour continues or escalates after a first touch point, we will contact the parent directly. An individual warning email will be sent, and a personal phone call offered to discuss support strategies and any concerns.

Stage 3 — Loss of Privileges and Temporary Removal

If poor behaviour continues, we may temporarily remove the dancer from upcoming public performances, competitions or workshops, social events or reward schemes, the Next Gen Student Helper programme, the ability to progress to the next level of classes, or, in rare cases, temporary class participation. Refunds will not be issued for any classes or events missed as a result of behaviour.

3. Data Privacy Notice

Lane's Dance Academy (LDA) is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. This notice explains how we collect and use personal data about you in line with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We may update this notice from time to time, so please check this page occasionally to make sure you're happy with any changes.

Who we are

We are Lane's Dance Academy, based in Tameside.

Email: info@lanesdanceacademy.co.uk

Telephone: 0161 706 2075

How we collect your information

The data we hold is collected from the sign-up form you completed on our website, or from a form signed by you on the first day you or your child attended a class at one of our venues.

What data we collect and why

Our lawful basis for processing this data is consent. We collect student's name, date of birth (children only), gender, parent or guardian name (children only), email address, main contact number, additional emergency contact details, medical information, permission to photograph and video children, and optional postal address.

How long we keep your data

We retain the data you provide for as long as you or your child attends classes with us, and for one year afterwards, unless you ask us to do otherwise.

Your rights

Under data protection legislation you have the right to request access to any information we hold about you or your child. Requests should be emailed to info@lanesdanceacademy.co.uk. If you believe your data should be erased, please contact us at the same email.

4. Health and Safety Policy

Lane's Dance Academy takes health and safety issues seriously and is committed to protecting the health and safety of its staff and everyone affected by its business activities or visiting its premises.

Victoria and Andy Lane, Principals of Lane's Dance Academy, have overall responsibility for health and safety. Any concerns about health and safety should be reported to the Principal Health and Safety Officer.

All staff and visitors must:

  • take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of others;
  • co-operate with health and safety instructions and rules;
  • report all health and safety concerns promptly;
  • keep the workplace tidy and hazard-free;
  • familiarise themselves with fire instructions and emergency procedures;
  • comply with fire drills and evacuation procedures.

5. Fees, Payments and Cancellations

To ensure the smooth running of the academy and allow our team to focus on delivering classes, events and opportunities for our dancers, the following policy applies to all memberships.

Membership/Class Cancellation Policy

All class cancellations must be submitted by the 15th of the month to allow sufficient notice for changes to take effect.

Cancellations received after the 15th of the month will result in the following month's subscription payment remaining due.

This notice period allows us to:

  • Advertise available spaces to new and existing dancers.
  • Manage waiting lists and trial bookings effectively.
  • Make informed business decisions based on confirmed class numbers and staffing requirements.
  • Plan class structures, resources and timetables accurately.

As class spaces are reserved specifically for each dancer, payment remains due during the notice period regardless of attendance.

Outstanding Class Subscription Payments

Where a class subscription payment has failed, bounced or remains unpaid, the associated account will be placed on hold until the balance has been cleared.

Managing failed payments and outstanding accounts requires significant administration time behind the scenes. As a small team, repeated payment chasing impacts our ability to focus on the day-to-day running of the academy and the experience we provide for our dancers.

While an account is on hold:

  • Dancers will not be permitted to participate in classes until the outstanding payment has been resolved.
  • All academy communications will be suspended, including class updates, timetables, competitions, performances, carnivals, workshops, open days, holiday activities, special events and other opportunities.
  • Places for additional activities or events will not be reserved.
  • Information, offers or booking opportunities shared during the suspension period will not be reissued or backdated once payment has been received.
  • Any scheduled 1-to-1 dance lessons may be cancelled and the time slot released for rebooking if the associated class subscription remains unpaid.

Normal access to classes, communications and academy opportunities will resume once the outstanding balance has been paid.

By continuing to attend classes with Lane's Dance Academy, you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to adhere to this Class Subscription, Payment & Cancellation Policy.

This policy allows our team to operate efficiently, ensures fairness across all families and allows us to dedicate our time to creating the best possible dance experience for our dancers, rather than managing avoidable administration.

Class Subscription

After the initial trial, dance class fees are charged monthly pro rata across 11 months (with a break in August) through Stripe. Subscriptions are collected on the last day of the month, ready for the next month's classes.

To cancel a September place, notice must be received by 15th July.

September Places

September fees are taken at the end of July to secure current dancers' places and to allow us to organise advertising for new places. This is not an August charge for a month when we are closed — it secures your child's place for the new term.

Cancellation and Rejoining

If you cancel without notice and then rejoin within a short period (within 3 months), a rejoining fee of £10 will be added.

Class Cancellations by Lane's Dance Academy

If a dance class has to be cancelled for reasons beyond the teacher's control, we will, where possible, offer a make-up class on an alternative day and time. If a make-up class is not possible, the class will be credited automatically against your next invoice.

In the event of extreme weather or other circumstances beyond our reasonable control (including but not limited to snow, ice, flooding or heatwaves), where classes are cancelled for the safety of our dancers, no refunds or credits will be issued. Where possible, an alternative online provision may be offered at our discretion.

6. Your Agreement
